To Qualify
Thank you for inquiring about our home ownership program. Please read through the qualification section below. If you qualify, please click the continue button at the bottom of this page to be taken to our homeownership page. The homeownership page will give you all the details you need to know about our program, and give you the link to apply for a home.
- At the time of the application, you must have lived and/or worked in Houston County for a minimum of one (1) year. Proof of citizenship will be required. Background and Credit checks will be conducted.
- You must have a need for housing. Your present housing must be sub-standard. For example, leaks in the roof, broken windows, floor rotting out, doors that do not lock, heating or cooling problems, exposed wiring, etc. or presently resides in government-subsidized housing (i.e. Housing Authority, Section 8). Overcrowding and being over burdened with housing costs may also be considered.
- You must have an ability to pay. You must have a steady, verifiable source of income so that you can pay a mortgage. Credit checks will be conducted.
- You must be willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity. Every potential Habitat homeowner is required to work a minimum of 200 sweat equity hours. You must be willing to work a minimum of 100 hours by working on your own house.
