  • Show the ability to repay an affordable 0% interest mortgage.
  • Commit to completing sweat equity hours.
How long does the application process take?

The timeline varies but typically takes several months. The process may include submitting your application, attending an interview, and participating in a home visit for evaluation.

The Homebuying Process

How are homes assigned to families?

Homes are assigned based on availability and the family's specific needs, such as household size and other factors.

How much will my home cost?

The cost of Habitat homes varies. Monthly payments are less than 30% of monthly income. Monthly payments include taxes, insurance, and the mortgage principal.

Can I personalize my home?

Habitat homes are not custom-built, but within certain guidelines, you may have opportunities to choose finishes, such as flooring or fixtures, during construction.

What is the down payment amount for a Habitat home?

The down payment is approximately $1,000.

Where are Habitat homes built?

We build homes in Houston County, Georgia. Locations vary based on availability.

Partnership Expectations

Do I have to volunteer to receive a home?

Yes, Habitat homeowners are required to complete "sweat equity" hours. These may include building your home, assisting on other Habitat projects, or participating in workshops.

What are sweat equity hours?

Sweat equity hours refer to the volunteer time that applicants contribute to Habitat projects. This can include:

  • Construction work.
  • Attending homeowner education workshops.
  • Volunteering at the ReStore.
  • Supporting other Habitat initiatives.

Completing these hours is a critical part of the partnership and demonstrates your commitment to the program.
